American Values by Quasimanga American Values by Quasimanga
An average American and what he values.

Some of the models used in creating the piece.
A perfectly ordinary Texan
The world famous Fatman

Some of the influences:
The Crying Indian , peaceful friend of nature.

Something tangentially hilarious:
Hippys’ Battle Cry!

In closing, this picture is dedicated to internet luminary, Shawn Elliot , who regularly showcases the morbidly obese via his Twitter feed. Follow him at your own peril. I do.

Then follow me too. Quasimanga on Twitter

. . . I think this is a power piece. This picture is neither sad nor mocking, it's a symbolic piece in more ways than one. I don't think he was mocking Americans, just as he wasn't mocking the terrorist. He's making a point that just like we have stereotypes of other countries, races, and ect. They have it the same. And more often than not the typical American would see this and get angry because "We're not fat and war junkies," Please...let's be honest. In America where weight is a 'disease,' You ridicule a Black president faster than the White president who sent us down this economical destruction, and we're at a war for Gas? Not to mention, the religion wars. This picture says it all. We Americans need not be so dense and pull our head out of our asses for fear we might shit our self in anger. The truth is there, it simply takes a nation to realize that we're not perfect.

Very well done, and sadly accurate in portraying current American values. (although you left out the television displaying some crappy reality tv show :P )

This is totally mocking Americans if I can say.Bullshit,Try asking people if there fat before drawing something. If you ask me I'm not fat.....I'm not an asshole I'm skinny.Where not gonna let some people judge us by not really looking closely. You people look at yourself and think what if somebody was telling you that your fat or an asshole?Think of how you will feel.Well, that's how we feel to be made fun of or called an asshole.I feel insulted by you people making fun of people.Do you know I kinda of feel nice about people doing there opinion,But this is just stupid. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. Not me,but some people have a serious disease that makes them fat.But toher then that...I do like how you Drawn it.I like your art but not the definition of this picture.

63% of Americans are overweight- as of 2009
76% of Americans claim to be Christian- as of 2008
America has been actively at war for the past decade.... i'd say his depiction is fairly accurate.

Understand this, though: If you hate America, then leave. I honestly don't see why you would want to stay in a country that you clearly despise so much, and furthermore, this art was crass and offensive to many.

nothing in my comment insinuates in any way that i hate the US. in fact, according to the bible, open rebuke is a show of love. knowing and saying what the problems are does not mean hate, it means i understand what needs to be worked on to improve the situation. :)
but i say we end the public side of this debate.... i dont feel that DA is the correct forum. i even apologized to Quasimanga for opening so many cans of worms...
i thank you and appreciate your opinion though, and would love to continue this... ;)

I too, am sorry for getting nasty: It was most rude of me. I was dealing with something irksome, and I just couldn't contain my anger.

Unfortunately, I only have a dA and FF.N, so I couldn't really continue anywhere else...

Well, the problem with that is they CLAIM to be christian, and rarely do they adhere to their supposed beliefs. I just think it would have been more accurate if he had left out the Bible, as it's not even part of the stereotype anymore.

A stereotype gone awry.
Well, oh well. Us Americans got many-a-stereotype for every country out there (atleast the ones we can find on the map).
We laugh loudly and obnoxiously at other known countries as we chomp on our ShmackDonalds and shoot at birds who fly past while we lounge in our backyard.

I have to say, I'm disappointed one would waste their talent in drawing something morbid and mocking as this. But hey, it is your choice.

Though most of all, I am curious to as to which country you come from. You are from where?

interesting opinion.
myself, i feel the exact opposite. every person in the world should use their developed talents for improvement of humanity and the world. if this opens a person's eyes to the hypocrisy of US, then it is far from wasted talent.

Every stereotype comes from some kind of truth and if you can't see that you're blind.
No, not everybody in America is like this, but are there? Hell yeah.
And for the people who get nippy about it - there are disgusting stereotypes for everyone/everything. This is ours and it happened for a reason.

Also the overall composition is quite nice. I love the colors you used. : D

Those values just aren't American values.

And so ends my white-knighting.
