Shadow Walk - Uncle

Character design from a new comic series I’m working on called Shadow Walk. Since Angelica’s uncle is an ex-mercenary I wanted him to have a tough, chiseled look. For reference I turned to a little known resource, the Florida Department of Corrections Offender Search page.

The page allows you to search for criminals using a number of criteria. Want sexual offenders in Dade County? They’ve got ‘em. What makes this tool useful for artists is that each offender has a prison mug shot presented with their info. If you’re looking for a villainous character for your story, I can’t suggest a better place to look. I spent the better part of the day doing sketches of criminals, seeking just the right scumbag to represent Angelica’s uncle. After some tweaking, I arrived at a design that I liked. So that’s the magic behind the scenes.
